women's lightweight wool suits - reviews

Perfect work skirt
I am completely surprised by the negative reviews here. I read most of them before trying the skirt on in the local BR store - and was prepared for disappointment. The complete opposite was true - this skirt fit me PERFECTLY! Disclosure: I am a 5'7" 120 lbs built fairly straight up and down and wear either a 0 or 2 in pants (XS or S). I wanted a skirt to wear to interviews or work (healthcare industry) that had a higher waist and hit just above the knee. DONE! LOVE IT! Every seam laid completely flat, no wrinkles, bumps, or scrunchy fabric tugging in random areas. It keeps my tucked in work shirts well placed and I have no need for a belt. The material is high quality, as is the craftsmanship, and the skirt looks beautiful with the matching suit jacket. I purchased a size 2 in the skirt, the Martin fit pants, and the jacket in both black and grey. These suits will serve me well for the next decade or so. YAY for BR! Thanks for helping me look and feel like a professional woman!

Great skirt
First time I have written a review for BR. I needed a suit for an interview and went with this skirt and the coordinating jacket. The skirt fits nicely everywhere and was surprised to find it was actually comfortable (not used to wearing suits and will have to if I get this job - which of course I won't mind!). Great investment - nicely made.

Up Size for A Better Fit
What do women's sizes even mean any more? That being said, be sure to "upsize" if you're a regular BR shopper, like everyone else has noted. I was skeptical because I normally wear a 2 jacket and 4 skirt if there in the BR suits that have stretch. However, I ended up buying a 6 jacket and a 4 LONG (and I'm only 5'5) skirt and it fits perfectly, hitting right at the knee so it's acceptable for my work. The 6 jacket is still fitted and I can wear a collared shirt or short sleve top underneath. About the Suit: This takes a traditional black skirt suit and ups the style with the high waist skirt. (I love it becuase I can wear a belt with it to break up the waist panel). The fabric is not as "refined" as some other suits from BR I've bought in the past but with all the holiday sales going on you can surely take advantage and get yourself a new black suit at a good price.

Great Basic Skirt
This is a great basic skirt suit, but too short. I am 5' 3" and I like my skirts knee length. Love the skirt, but BR need to adjust for the sizing and length. I wont wear it to work because of the length, but I am keeping it to wear out. I like that the fabric is lightweight. In sum, perfectly nice suit skirt but order up!

inconsistent sizing
I have the sleek suiting skirt (cotton) in size 8 and it is a touch too big. This skirt in size 8 is a bit snug. The pockets are risky and might be unflattering if they come unstitched. It has a very high waist (comes about two fingers above my belly button). Since I'm short waisted, I'm not sure how much use this skirt would get. The fabric is a three season ... (fall through spring in DC, spring through fall in northern climes like Chicago). Since it arrived horribly creased, I am having trouble judging the quality of the fabric and workmanship. In sum, if you need a black suit right now, this could work out for you. If you are looking to replace a black suit, you might keep looking.

Doesn''t fit right in the hips
I really wanted to love this skirt -- I own its sister in a casual thicker stretch fabric that I got from BR last summer and wear it all the time (speaking of -- DON'T open up the pockets, you'll totally regret it and my dry cleaners are now $5 the richer for sewing them back shut). I am an hourglass and a standard BR size 8, but the fit of the suit version of this skirt was just bizarre -- very comfortable at the waist, but panty line tight at the hips for my standard size. And when I tried to size up, the hips were ok, but the waist literally stood an inch away from the body. The length was fine -- just above the knee (I am 5'5"). The fabric is fairly lightweight and would have been perfect for late spring and summer, but I thought it looked a little cheap for a nice suit and wouldn't recommend it for very formal settings.

too small
The jacket is perfect, just like the other suits i've ordered from BR. the material is really nice but the skirt is way too small.
What happened to BR''s suits?!?
I've gotten a couple of really great suits from BR, but unfortunately they are now a size too small. This skirt (with matching jacket) is the 2nd suit I've returned to BR in the last year. They fit awfully and are NOT work appropriate. I don't know what kind of office these could be worn in - certainly not mine! I have a job interview in 2 days and I'm so frustrated how hard it is to find a basic/classic suit that fits correctly!! Bring back the old fit BR!!!
