Fabulous Fabulous Fabulous
Lately I lost some weight (yeah!) and the other day I found my old pencil ... getting way too big on me. Today when I was just browsing at the local BR store, this one jumped to my eyes and I got a feeling that it'll look great on me :-) Yes it did - it fitted me like a glove, from waist to hip. I admit usually when I shop for ... if the waist fits me, the hip will be too tight. If the hip fits, the waist is usually too loose. I rarely describe myself as hourglass shape as I have broad shoulders and not busty at all, but I guess I do have slimmer waist compared to other ladies who has similar hip size. And this ... like made for me! BTW, I have the size long and it fits just right, so I can see the regular size might be a little too short. Can't comment on the wrinkle part, but I can see it happen. It's made of wool, so that's not completely a surprise either. Very happy with my purchase!

I LOVE THIS ...
I never knew I could love a ... much! This ... pure perfection. I consider [$] for a ... splurge, and this is my first purchase from BR. I am always in need of a simple black pencil ... work and the occasional dinner party, so I figured it was worth it. I was so right! I usually fall between an 8 and a 10, and this ... fits me so well. It's like it was tailored to fit me! It is very slimming on my hips and waist, yet flattering and makes me look just curvy enough. The fabric is nice and soft and you can tell it is very high quality. I ordered it over the phone and it arrived in about 5 days. I would recommend this to anyone!

Comfortable and Flattering
I love this ... -- I have it in two colors. I am 5'10" and would consider my body type more curvy than slender (I think I am a taller hourglass shape), and somehow the size 4 regular fits perfectly. I usually wear a 6 long in pants and a 6/8 in dresses (to accommodate shoulders and chest), but I find I should go down a size in ... If I chose a size according to the size guide without trying it on in the store, I'd probably order an 8 or 10! I don't know if it's because I'm tall, but I almost always order a size or two smaller than what my measurements tell me in a size guide. I don't find it to be too short either; it comes a few inches above the knee and it sits around my true waist (above my navel), the way I consider classic pencil ... should. Of course it comes up a bit when I sit, but not so much that I feel I couldn't wear it to work. Since the ... 21.5 inches long, measure that length on your body to see where it will hit you. I think it's the perfect length for me.

Best mid price pencil skirt, tips for getting right size
This is the best mid price pencil skirt that I have ever tried and I have tried many from BR and other brands. The fabric with lining in basic black help to slim my silhouette, enhances curves without being too tight looking, and controls my tummy with its wide waist "support or panel". It rises higher than most other pencil ... then tapers at leg so that helps to give me an hourglass shape on my otherwise somewhat straight to pear shape frame. I have this skirt in size 6 Tall... I prefer a length that hits at bottom of knee as I wear heels with this in a conservative work area. For reference, I am 5'3", size 27 in most jeans, size 4 in BR Martin fit pants, size 6 in BR sloan fit pants. I do have a little tummy. I find that BR overall tends to run small.... I am also a size 2 to 4 in competitor and department store sizes. Here are my tips on ordering this skirt: 1) Try both your actual size and one size up. 2) Try different lengths sitting and standing. If your goal is to show legs both standing and sitting and your work place will not mind so much or you plan to use mostly for going out, go for the petite size if you are really petite. I tried the petite sitting and standing and it was way too short for my taste. The regular is a great length for standing but once I sat with it on, it came up almost to mid thigh...still too showy for my taste in my work area but may be just fine w/ you. The tall is perfect... hits bottom of the knee when standing and above the knee when sitting. 3) There is more darting in this ... than the typical pencil skirt....for my body type this is a plus. If you have a little tummy, love handles, don't mind showing an hourglass shape, and want a ... wear without needing support undergarment...this is your ... said, because I had to try on several sizes and lengths in this ... get right size, it was short on 5 stars. But keep in mind you can order different sizes and get free shipping online and just return at store. If you want to only purchase at store...find your closest BR that carries all sizes and lengths. For me, I could not find tall in any BR stores nearby so I had to order online.

lovely ...
I love this ... did have to go a size up from 6 to 8. It's very flattering for a curvy shape. Sometime, I find it hard to get pencil ... don't look too tight but this one is lovely. It's also very comfortable for travelling and I wore it recently on a long flight and it looked and felt great.

Flattering ...
This ... my favorite pencil ... my work wardrobe. The large banded waist is flattering on the mid section, and it hugs in all the right places for curves! I have a straight, athletic shape (5'3, 135 lbs) and usually wear a 2-4 in BR/Gap ... but had to exchange (for free and very easy thanks BR!) for a 6. The new one arrived within 3 days of calling in the exchange, and it fits perfectly! It hits just at my knee (6 Reg, not Petite) and requires no altering. I found this ... while it was on sale + 30% off, and also found the matching black fitted blazer for $45, so a full ... suit for under $90 with alterations at my height?? Can't beat that. It didn't get 5 stars because of the sizing issue (order up a size from your usual, or if you are between sizes order the larger size), but overall I am very happy with this purchase!

A bit too unprofessional for office wear
I was hoping for a simple black pencil ... bit too tight (almost spandex y feeling) for my office. Strikes me as the kind of pencil ... would get in a cheap, trendy store like Bang Bang. Fabric is insubstantial -- does not feel/look like wool, the band is too wide & low to be flattering, and the pockets are a bit off. The biggest problem besides fabric for me was the silhoutte. The ... tapers as it falls down, so rather than being a classic straight pencil line, the effect is a bit more va va-voom. If that's what you're looking for, great. But I would feel inappropriate in my workplace, and I have no desire to wear this in my spare time. I am going to have to return.

Why changes the fit & size?
Just like Gap jeans, Banana Republic has messed with the fit of their staple items. After reading reviews for this ... ordered a size up from my normal, as well as from my other BR Pencil ... still is too snug across the hips. I'm a curvy girl, but I"m a fit, curvy girl and shouldn't have to order two sizes up from my other BR ... get an appropriate fit. I felt the length was fine - hit just above my knees - but too snug across hips/rear. Too bad, but I'll be sending this back.

BAD DESIGN CHOICE with back zipper
I tried on this suit in a store, but was disappointed with the cheap fabric and poor tailoring. I also wasn't crazy about the cut of the ... -- it's somewhere between a pencil ... line, as if the designers couldn't decide which way to go. Most of all, however, I want to point out the extremely poor design choice with respect to the back zipper. I thought I was having trouble pulling it all the way up, until I realized that it purposely doesn't go all the way up to the waist. Instead, it stops at a "V" about an inch below the waist, with a hook just below the "V." The problem is, if I were to wear this around the office without a jacket and with a shirt tucked in, it would look like I was somehow too fat around the middle to pull the zipper all the way up! (In fact, this is a tried and-true method many women have used to extend the use of a ... getting too tight, so long as you can wear an untucked knit top or sweater to cover it up.) Why, oh why, would the designers think this was a good idea?!?

Returning it
I have a pencil ... BR that I have been wearing for 8 years. Seriously, it is beautiful - grey pinstripe, lined, not too fitted, makes me look tall and lean and polished. I wear it when I am having a "big" day at work - I feel like it makes people take me a bit more seriously. It is magic. This ... unfortunately, is the opposite. I look like some sort of cartoon bimbo secretary. It makes my legs look stumpy (I'm 5'7", size 6), my butt and hips look giant, and the overall shape is not unlike Jessica Rabbit - not good for the office setting. If you are very petite and have absolutely no butt or hips, this may be a good fit for you... that is not me, however! The fabric feels cheap for BR wool, and the stitching is just... weird. I really, really wish I could find a black wool version of the 8 year old ...

Too high and too tight. Unless you are shaped like a pencil, this pencil ... just doesn't work.
