A perfect Messenger ... I am so excited about my new messenger ... light weight but quite durable and has all the right pockets to make it stylish and quite functional. There are so many messenger bags to choose from and this one comes in several colors but the blue one works with every coat and jacket I own. Find the color that works best for you and get ready for the compliments.
I like it more than others!I just purchased this ... store at a great price! I love it! It has style, it is versatile to dress up or down, it carries all items I need on the go, such as ... kindle, wallet, hairbrush, reading glasses, and miscellaneous little things. It is of very good quality, and stands out over other bags I looked at while shopping for a new Messenger's.
classy and slickThis is a great ... work, going out, and everyday use. I like all those pockets for random things. I really don't understand why people rate it poorly solely because it does not have extra padding for laptop. Does the description says anything about it being a laptop ... Does it say it will fit 15"4 inch laptop? Does it say ANYTHING that make you to think it is for laptop? The answer is NO. People these days are just ridiculous.

Handsome ... Have been looking for a good, perfectly sized and understated yet attractive ... carry my business laptop for occasional work travel and to work as a briefbag on a daily basis. Have used a leather Fossil briefbag for last couple years. Had a beloved Eddie Bauer brief ... nylon twill and leather trim used off and on for 20 years that I used as my benchmark for the perfect ... slim when empty and infinitely expandable as file transporting was required. Shopped online endlessly, pored over ... dozens and dozens of catalogs for over a year, then recently stumbled on a reference to this Banana Republic ... article somewhere. It caught ... eye as a subtle design with quality trim, fabric for lightweight but a bit more structure than some bags without the oversized proportions of many others. The pebbled leather trim is minimal and discreet but well placed. The fabric is sturdy but has a nice, quality sheen. Color is a deep, forest green, not bright or girly, an effective neutral dark shade that isn't gray or black. The shoulder strap is not too wide and not too skinny with a slim leather shoulder pad and low luster metal hardware, not tacky plastic. Handy outside open pocket, absolutely necessary for stashing stuff quickly. Smaller zippered front pocket, but nice to have a secure spot quickly accessible. Inside is a smooth fabric liner with a modicum of open pockets and a slightly larger but could be-bigger zippered pocket. Front flap is nicely styled with buckles but secures quickly with magnetic latches. ... 14-in Dell laptop fits just fine, with room for a few more files, plus ... iphone and selected grooming essentials, earphones, business cards, etc. Not sure if there is room for the power brick, though I tend to stuff that in ... luggage while traveling. Will be flying with it in a couple weeks, the acid test for how flexible the cargo capacity is and how well it stays closed while being dragged through Security, crammed under airline seats and stuffed with a variety of documents plus laptop. I did not dwell overlong before ordering it once I found this online. I had a very high threshold of quality and mature hipness that I wanted ... next ... have and I think this one might have it. ... response is not unreserved, as it is a few inches smaller in overall dimensions than ... dear departed Eddie Bauer, and it has no briefcase handle to lug as a traditional ... must be shoulder slung. But I feel unencumbered and still well turned out in this ... am looking forward to taking it on the road in California soon to see how well it holds up among real hipsters. A good investment, I think, understated enough for a conservative workplace and good looking enough to mingle without shame among creative types.
Very good ... I've had this ... month, and it's turned out to be a very good ... few minor flaws. Overall, the ... well designed and looks great. The two buckles have magnets which guide the buckles to notch holes, but you still have to press the buckle buttons in to secure them. The ... has an exterior zippered pocket on the top flap and another zippered pocket inside. The problem with these pockets are that they are flush with the rest of the ... no expandable volume; so anytime you place anything inside the pocket (e.g. a small bottle of Tylenol), the entire ... bulges outward quite badly. I had last year's version of the canvas ... liked it quite a bit more. Last year's version was 15 inches wide (a few inches smaller), had magnetic latches without having to press in a buckle button, and there was no front zippered pocket. If the Banana Republic design team is reading this, I would suggest: (1) make the ... bit smaller; (2) add a top handle so I can carry a laptop with one hand; (3) reinforce the bottom so that it doesn't bulge downwards; (4) don't show any exterior stitching; and (5) simplify the design to be more minimalistic.

We ... son, who received the gift, and I) were impressed with the quality and style of the ... has a sleek, uncluttered look with an ample number of spaces and pockets. ... only complaint is that it came in an unpadded plastic ... which caused the side opposite the strap/buckle side to be wrinkled and lumpy. We decided not to return it, assuming the replacement would be sent in a similar flimsy ... seems that a product costing around $100 should be sent in more substantial packaging. We expect more from Banana Republic!
Disappointing ... The reviews of this ... have been overwhelmingly positive, so I was somewhat surprised when the actual item arrived, and failed to live up to my expectations. My standards were based on a similar BR messenger ... had dutifully served my needs for over 5 years. The strap on that ... finally broke, and I was thus compelled to get the latest version. I would return this item if the previous ... still functional. The styling on this model is very nice, and I appreciate some of the subtle details, such the magnetic fastener snaps, and the external industrial stitching. Otherwise, this item isn't much use to a man on the go, it's function being essentially that of a tote ... not a genuine messenger ... Unlike my previous ... there are no slots for pens, and the front zipper pocket has less than half of the carrying capacity. The interior is also less roomy, and if you plan on cramming your laptop in here with more than one standard sized book, you will be obliged to get creative with the placement. Another problem is that the compartments are not positioned in such a way so as to provide comfortable positioning for things like digital cameras, chargers, or other electronic accessories that one is likely to carry in this ... prepared for a lot of bulging. There is also an annoying metal logo plate with two small screws, positioned on the inside of the ... scratch your laptop exterior is you don't position something in between. Really a pointless inclusion. The previous ... used a simple printed tag. The construction and the quality of the materials is also compromised in comparison with the previous ... strap is made of a weaker weave material, and I doubt that this will last me the 5 years that my previous strap endured. The synthetic canvas of the ... itself is also thinner, and however attractive the external stitching may appear, it is more likely to catch and fray, eventually undoing the seams. To my fault, I should have examined the ... store, or spent the extra money and purchased the leather version. Nevertheless, I was basing my expectation on my previous BR messenger ... one falls very short of that product. BR 's previously high standards have been slowly eroding the past few years, in my humble opinion, and this ... indicative of a general decline in quality.
Size does matterI was excited to find a ... would fit ... husband's 17" laptop. The measurements showed the ... 18" wide. One of the reviews indicated the customer used their ... 17" computer. Let's say I was very disappointed when the ... arrived and was approximately 15" wide. Was the ... once 18" wide and sized down? If so, adjust your website to show accurate dimensions.

Great ... I love this ... use it for school and travel...I love all of the interior pockets great for putting my wallet, pens,keys, chargers all in their own special place. My favorite compartment is probably the one in the back it's a prefect fit for my laptop, leaving the main compartment for text books and such. I see a few complaints about the strap not being constructed of leather, one benefit of this is that leather stretches out with a lot of applied weight, I've had many bags straps snap on me....this nylon strap is perfect. This ... just a really great versatile ...
RecommendedI bought this for my husband as a graduation gift when he finished his master's degree. We are both very happy with it. Love the padded laptop copartment and other pockets. Zippers seem strong, leather is a nice brown color. It's a good looking ... not super formal. I looked at lots and lots of bags and for the price this is a great choice.
Great ... me This ... has a few idiosyncrasies that can be taken as positives or negatives depending on how it's used on a daily basis. For me, it's been great. I bought it because I liked the color. It was the only "reasonably" priced brown leather messenger ... could find that didn't use yellowed brass for the metal attachments. I also like the shoulder pad and the removable strap. The messenger flap closes securely and I've gotten used to the computer compartment being on the back of the ... Another nice touch is that, even though it's fairly compact, it holds a 17" laptop (which is about 15.5" wide). The top handle is a nice touch - one that many similar bags don't have. My only criticisms are the bottom of the ... could use a little more padding and the adjustment bar on the strap prevents one from using the shoulder pad if the strap is shortened too much. I'm 5' 10", so the ... hangs about right. But, if I were shorter, this would be annoying.
Nice ... Didn''t Hold Up I purchased this ... because (normally) Banana bags last quite a while and I wanted a classic, black leather messenger. My laptop fit perfectly in the padded back and it carried everything I needed for work. It held up well for the first couple of months, then things quickly went downhill. I noticed all of the metal hardware started to tarnish/fade to this weird orange color. The clasp that held the shoulder strap at the right length began to slip, so every time I wore the ... out, I’d have to readjust it. The metal hardware that connected the ... strap seemed to pretty low quality. The clips kept catching, not allowing the strap to rotate, and created this metal on-metal grinding sound (which was quite annoying). The metal eventually broke, so I couldn’t use the strap any longer. The leather aged quite well and the interior lining held up, too. The front clasps never stopped working. Overall, this is a pretty high quality ... but the hardware shouldn’t need replaced in less than a year. I have purchased other bags from Banana since, but I had hoped to use this messenger for a quite a while.
2 defective bags in a rowThis ... gorgeous. Been looking for the perfect work ... years and thought I had finally found it. There are these little buckle things that hold the ... shut. There are pins that keep the buckle in place. Literally after the first day with my ... one of the pins vanished, so one of the buckles was essentially broken. I was looking at the other buckle to see how it worked, and as I was looking at it another pin came out. Defective ... so I exchanged it for another ... 2nd ... lasted 4 days before one of the pins vanished. There is a design flaw with these bags that is unfortunate. I tried 2 of them and with VERY light use they both broke.
DisappointedThe stitching on the handle is coming undone on one side. I find that odd since its a messenger type ... which I carry 98% over the shoulder, not by the handle. I don't overstuff it or carry heavy things in it either. I haven't experienced any change in ... color yet. I guess that is something I have to look forward to? Yay me! *sarcasm* I received the ... gift less than a year ago so it's not something I could return. On the other hand I don't want this person to think I didn't appreciate it or didn't do my best to take care of this gift.
