Fashion Forward ... @ Good Price Point
I needed a last minute ... business trip, and this ... made an excellent addition to other more "traditional" suits. I received a lot of compliments on the ... found it to be perfect for evening/going out type of atmospheres -- it's fashionable and aggressive (and it will get you noticed) -- which also may not make it the best choice depending on what kind of business you do. Although I will stick to the more traditional Zegnas and Freemans, for the money, this is an outstanding addition to the wardrobe.
Need o make 36 short

Awesome ... top. First off, I have a athletic frame; 38-40 shoulders, and 28 waist. I got a 38s, which fit perfectly; note that this is a much more fitted ... compared to tailored fit for the other style of suits, which is why i picked 38, so that at my waist it looked fitted still and not too loose. When i say fitted, i don't mean it's so tight where i can't move smoothly or a oversized person wearing too tight of clothes; in short when standing it looks nice enough that it's like too loose and blowing in the wind, yet big enough to move around and not look like i'm strutting
Overall, pretty good, but expensive.
I picked up this blazer a couple weeks ago. As with most of the slimmer Banana Republic shirts and blazers, this one runs slightly smaller and narrower than your conventional blazer. I would guess that it is about 1/2 an inch shorter (lengthwise) than a normal 40R would be, and the chest does indeed feel slightly narrower than other suits that I own (that are 39R). The sleeves are about right, though perhaps maybe 1/4 inch longer than I would have expected. Also, the wool pattern is kind of weird; in some lighting situations, the color of the ... can flip back to dark charcoal ish in nature, which is not really desirable when buying a "black" ... However, it is fully lined, utilizes functional buttons, and it's pretty stylish. I picked up the blazer and matching pants with a coupon, which made it a pretty good deal.
Slim Fit It IS
This jacket is in fact a tighter fit than the tailored fit jackets I've bought from BR--particularly in the arm holes. No room for a lightweight sweater under the slimmer fit jacket unless you go up a size. I started with my usual size (38R) but felt the sleeve length was about 1/4"-1/2" too short, and the body seemed a bit too snug for my 6'1", 150-pound frame. I tried a 40R instead, which gave me the sleeve length and armpit space I'm used to in a 38R; unfortunately, the lapels wouldn't sit flat on the 40R. Considering how much this ... costs, that was pretty disappointing. Additionally, it would be nice if BR could come up with a way to ship these suits so that when they arrive, they wouldn't be such a wrinkled mess, leaving me to have to relentlessly steam them. I kept the 38R but will need to have the sleeve length let out--that's a first for me with a BR ... really like the weave of this wool, but the black isn't the jet black one might expect. I have to say that this is definitely my least successful ... purchase from BR. One more quibble: BR appears to be significantly hiking their ... prices (Yesterday, they actually had a number of suits "on sale," when in fact, the original price online had the usual line through it, but the "sale" price was actually HIGHER than the regular price. Usually, when one increases prices, one quietly goes about such a rate hike to minimize consumer unrest. Let's hope that was just some one time oversight in the tech department.). Banana Republic IS aware that we're still in a recession, right???

Slim Fit Pants Fit Like Tailored Fit
Once again, BR does it right with pants I actually don't have to go get tailored! I'm 6'1", and whenever I buy dress pants (32x34) from Express, Calvin Klein, etc., I always have to have the hem taken up and the waist and seat taken in. Of the seven BR suits I own, not one pair has required tailoring. Then again, considering the cost of the merchandise--especially the Monogram suits--they ought to fit like a glove. And these are no exception; however, these are advertised as slimmer fit, but these pants fit precisely like several tailored fit ... pants I have from BR. Now, as far as the coordinating ... coat goes, well, that is in fact a tighter fit than the tailored fit jackets I've bought from BR--particularly in the arm holes. No room for a lightweight sweater under the slimmer fit jacket. The fabric used for these pants is fantastic--a really nice semi stretchy wool weave.
Awesome Split Pants
Love the ... always get a compliment or two. I work rigorously in my suits i.e. up/down from standing to a squat for sometimes 10 hours in a day, even running in it sometimes. I always always have my suits re tailored after purchasing from BR for length only. Unfortunately the pants split in the thigh last week and not on the seam (which might seem weird). I have purchased a couple more pants in hope they will last me more than just a three uses.
Great Fit but Horrible Quality
The ... fits wonderfully, although the 32 pant length is more like a 31. However, a seam split in the crotch on the FIRST DAY I wore this ... pants otherwise fit fine, even a little loose, so this was clearly a quality issue). This will be the last time I purchase a BR ... worth the extra money for Hugo or HIckey suits that are stitched by folks who realize they are making a quality garment.

Great ... Price
This is a great classic navy ... money. This is the tailored cut that ... offers, and I would suggest this cut over their modern cut, as the tailored cut is more flattering. I wear a 40 regular jacket, and it ... me quite well. Not sure why some would think they'd need to go up a size, but this fits true to size. On me it doesn't seem to need any shortening of the arms or taking in the sides. The trousers ... me quite well, too. The wool is the 4 season weight for year round wear, and a nice navy blue, not a midnight blue. I prefer the two button over three, and think it a great all around ... whether for the office or going out to dinner. The buttons are a little boring (as most off the rack suits offer), but I imagine it wouldn't take much effort to have them replaced with something more interesting. Overall, a classic ... should impress.
Simply amazing jacket
This jacket is part of the latest "tailored" line of suits from ... Jacket fits excellent around the shoulders and chest. I did not have to take it to a tailor for adjustments and that is great ... making in my opinion. The two vents on the back are also a plus as they give this ... European flair. My only complaint is that the jacket is perhaps two inches two long. It is already a tailored ... if it was a little shorter, it could compete with my Hugo Boss suits.
Nice ...
I'm 5,9 180lbs and at the gym a lot so slim suits are hard to find without going to the tailor. If you are in the market for low cost but great ... without the tailoring, then this is it. Material is very light and I went with a 42 short and 30 on the pants. Perfect cut for my body type and has the stretch feel to it.
Not impressed
My husband already has a ... he bought 18 months ago for a wedding that looks great and fits perfectly -- so we ordered this one in three colors for work, expecting a similar result. Instead, the ... not as good and we were very disappointed at the quality of the fabric -- it [*]doesn't compare to some suits we just bought him at [@] for much less. All ... suits are clearly not the same so be aware of that when you're ordering! We sent them all back.

I am a big fan of Banana Suits. I own about 15 of them. I wanted this one because I needed a new solid Navy ... have never bought a ... Banana Republic before and returned it until I purchased this one. The material looked very cheap and stretched like a pair of Spandex. Even though it fitted me fine it looked like it would wrinkle very easy and looked cheap. Save your time and buy another ... just received the Mad Men ... looks great!
The ... either had the wrong size ticket on it or it was just cut extremely tight. I have other suits that are tailored ... never had both the jacket and pants ... so tight.

Workday Staple
MY husband needs to wear suits to work everyday and has a difficult time finding ones that fit him as he is tall (6'2") and skinny (160lbs), but has broad shoulders and long arms. Well, we've had great success with the BR suits. They fit perfectly, just as good as the custom tailored ... he bought for $300 more than the BR one! Also, the styling is great. Clean and contemporary just as we like. No ugly pleats, etc. My only problem is that it seems ... has a hard time keeping the size we need in stock. Every time there is a sale I check and sometimes it's there, sometimes sold out. Annoying, but worth the wait.
44 R is two sizes too small
I read the review from the lady who said to get a 48 if you wear a 44R and she was right, I wish I would have listened. I have an athletic build (6'0, 180 lbs). I comfortably wear 44R in Boss, and Joseph Aboud suits. If you have a similar athletic build and wear 44 R, definitely go with a 46 or a 48. The 48R will fit you the most comfortably. The 46R will be a bit snug but still comfortable if you are going for a more tighter look. The 44R is just too small, don't even entertain the idea of buying it. If you are looking to buy this ... work and want to be comfortable, definitely buy the 48R. The length and sleeve length fit well but they are a bit small in the chest and shoulders.

Pants do not fit the same as other BR pants
I take 34x30 with almost all BR pants, jeans, and khakis but with the cut of this ... they were way too tight. My wife actually laughed at the fit. I returned the ... went to a Banana Republic store and bought another ... off the rack and the 34x30 pants fit perfectly. I normally love their suits, I just can't trust the fit enough to order on line again.

A Perfect Gift
My husband hates ... pants that are pleated so it is very hard to find suits that he likes. Then we found the suits at Banana Republic. He loved his first ... here so much that I bought him this one as well. They fit great, have a modern look, but a classic feel about them as well. I think we will buy all of his suits from Banana Republic from now on!!!
best ... I''ve ever owned
This is my second ... although I own many suits but most from department stores. The color is a such a deep black and doesn't look charcoal or an espresso brown like my previous Macy's black ... materials and worksmanship (not sure if that's the right word) are very high quality. The ... excellent and I only had to hem the pants (I'm a short guy). I wore this to the ballet and got a few compliments from the others in our group. I also wore this to my company holiday party and the VP of my department said my ... looked better than his and he was wearing Hugo Boss. I had my previous black ... nearly ten years, but this ... far better. I only hope it lasts that long.
A staple every man should have in his wardrobe
If you are looking for a 2 button black ... that's not cut boxy and loose like most suits you'll find, then definitely try this ... labeled as Modern Fit. ... has another fit for suits called Tailored Fit, if you are looking for a slim fit ... if you are a skinny person then get the Tailored Fit. If you workout with weights like I do though, the Tailored Fit may be a bit snug though. The Modern Fit is good compromise though as it's not too slim and not too lose. I needed a black ... formal occasions and this ... fits the bill perfectly. The ... received was marked as made in Canada.
the modern ... always fits well better then the tailored which makes me mad cause the tailored suits come in more styles that I like.
Great ... great price
After having the last couple of suits made to-measure and tailored (Hong Kong and Savile Row, London) I've tended to shun off the-rail. But I was in need of a black ... having 'outgrown' my decade old Hugo Boss (i.e. got too fat for the trousers!) so I took a look at the ... modern fit ... have to say (thanks to a generous selection of chest, waist and leg lengths) it fits as good as my bespoke suits. Good quality Italian cloth from Cerrutti mills that is crease resistant and plenty of pockets. My only comment would be the lapels are narrower than I'd like. But for a ... cost me a less than $400 (pants were on sale and I also had a 20% voucher) it's a concession I can live with! I recommend buying two pairs of pants, just in case.

I bought this ... my wedding, coming up in two months. I paid about [$] for the combined jacket and pants, and am overall happy with the purchase. I nearly bought a [$] slightly more old school but better fitting Calvin K but this more in my price range. Banana doesn't really make suits for tall, lanky guys like me, as much as JCrew or Express might normally (a 40L would have been prefect but they don't MAKE one) but hopefully the tailor will be able to help me out with the sleeves, and take in the body a bit. BUT, the quality is superb, feel is fancy, and I'm just excited to get married!
Good looking but be sure to take it to the tailor
This ... perfect example of what I love and hate about shopping at ... material looks great, the jacket feels great, it is comfortable in the shoulders but then you realize that there is so much material in the waist that you feel almost like you are wearing a cape! The pants too are funny with this ... usually buy 31/32 but for these pants the waist runs small even though the pants are loose modern fit. I bought last year a navy pinstriped ... tailor fit and the 31 and those fit great and that is the slimmer fit compared to the modern fit suits. Strange. The pants on the ... seem almost like MC Hammer pants. Small in the waist and then are too long and baggy. So I took this ... tailor and had the waist taken out a bit on the pants, had them hemmed a bit and also took the waist in on the jacket. Now it looks great after spending 50 dollars on tailoring. I hope ... gets their act together on the consistancy of their sizes.
Basic Black ...
This is a basic black 2-button ... high twist yarn. A standard staple item, classic, elegant, yet simple. When paired with the matching ... pant, it is great for a night out, to funerals, weddings and the like. The ... "Modern ... which isn't mentioned in the description page, but the tag sown onto the jacket states so. A "Modern ... basically a looser cut in the chest, wider shoulders, etc. Best way to describe it would be a "boxy" ... If you are looking for a looser cut, then this is what you're looking for. If you are looking for a slimmer cut, then this would be a fairly generous cut, compared to the "Tailored ... offered in some other suits from ... sleeve holes are quite big as well. I purchased a 36R, and the sleeves were too long, I was hoping that ... offers a 36S, but they do not. The material was pretty decent, and as expected for a high twist wool ... Light mid weight wool, makes it fairly versatile year round, if you live in a mild climate area.

great ... just wish it came in 36short, so i don't have to have it altered. i'd buy more suits from banana rep if they had 36s.
Too sloppy for my taste
I am a fan of ... clothing and have one of their suits (charcoal modern 3-button pinstripe from a few seasons back) and many dress pants and shirts. I am accustomed to, and appreciate, BR's fit which tend to be more slim and body conscious. I was surprised then to find that the ... jacket purchased came off as quite loose in the chest area and appeared to me, sloppy. The fabric, color,length and quality were what I anticipated but I couldn't get over the "billowing" nature of the jacket on me. I've learned if it doesn't "feel right" on you, don't even try- and it didn't. I did read in some comments that it is a "modern" cut, even though it is not listed that way on the site, and thought that since my other ... fit so well, this would translate. Maybe it is because of the 2-button nature, not sure. I am an athletic guy (32" waist, 44 chest, 6"1' for reference- if that even matters) so am looking for something to flatter I guess. I would have gone for the Monogram (sp?) single button but the pants have been sold out for forever in my size; it appears as though that is a slimmer cut however and will have to go for that. I returned the ... local store after having purchased it online due to needing a "L" (long) as they don't stock these locally.
