I was confused, for the better, while trying these classic fit wool pants on due to the style name, and understandably why other reviewers seem frustrated. Until recently, all male formalwear labeled in any degree classic has fit a man like an oversized baggy mess, The average male body has needed styles labeled vintage, slim, custom, silhouette etc. to obtain simple ... definition and tailoring, though designers never forget to add cost with each creatively furthered tailoring adjective. For this particular ... classic fit has jumped back to fitting an average slender male body, the lower half at least. After trying several styles I found classic to now hold uniform tailoring, a narrow lower leg, and room to still tuck in a shirt. Note that the modern style is significantly more roomy and less defined, matching a loose straight leg ... indicates male style/sizing is heading toward classic meaning the ground zero starting point for true to-size formalwear and will lessen the confusion. Designers have noticed the average male body has improved and classic means fit and healthy (and ... means just that).
Great Pants
These pants were available 4 years ago and I loved them. After ruining them I was upset to find out they were not available any more until now. These are the best pants. The material allows you to move around as though you were wearing sweat pants. I am a ... guy and these pants are true to size. They are not snug on the waist, thigh or rear. Perfect pants. Banana needs to match a suit jacket and I would buy up the collection.
Pants are great
I had very similar pants as part of my private school uniform when I was a kid. Purchased these pants to go with a navy blazer and they will do that nicely. Although, I expected a more fitted bottom and less flare on the leg I am happy with them. The pants are replacing suit pants that were very wide and pleated. So, now I have a great use of a good blue suit jacket with these pants. I will be wearing them in June to a beach wedding and the half lining in the legs will make the pants fit well and breath well in the summer heat. Nice.
Highly Versatile. A must have.
These pants are amazing! Extremely versatile. Very comfortable and they're virtually wrinkle proof. I've been searching for a nice pair or black dress slacks for work and business casual occasions... i have finally found them! I've already received numerous complements on them... I'm a physician and work at least 12 hrs a day... even after wearing these pants for >12hrs, they still looked as good as when I first put them on in the AM. After reading some of the reviews, I was worried... but these pants have not let me down. Extremely well made... as for the feel of the material, if you've ever purchased wool/spandex blend, you'll know how the material will feel. As for size, I'm a size 35 waist for BR pants and I ordered these in a 35 waist and they fit perfectly... as for length, I went one size longer than I normally get and they're fine... so I might suggest getting one size longer...
best pants ever
I'm short and slender and these pants in a 30x30 fit perfectly off the rack. I mean better than any other pants in 20 years, even those adjusted by a tailor. Comfortable as a second skin. This particular mid grey is extremely versatile - looks great with a navy or black blazer but also lighter colored, plaid, or textured jackets; all colors of sweaters; and black, brown, cordovan or tan shoes. I own 6 pairs of the grey and 2 of the black and will occasionally pick up one or two more whenever there's a 40% or more coupon. With the versatility of the basic colors and classic styling to go along with the comfort of a perfect fit for me, these are pants for a lifetime.
Decent Fit
I was looking for a good classic wool ... wear to work. Overall I'd say that these are 'pretty good'. I typically fall between a 30 and 31 in the waste, so I got these in a 30 since my 31 was a bit too ... overall fit is acceptable, though they're a bit tight in the upper leg/thigh region. If your upper legs aren't too thick I think these pants will fit perfectly. If not, they'll just be a bit snug.
They work for my purposes
I have really thick legs and a big caboose, and BR has finally started making a cut in a flat front ... designed for more than a stick legged waif. This cut is the first time in my life that I have ever been able to buy a pair of pants off the shelf and wear them, rather than buy a ... 4" too big in the waist and have them tailored. I have one of every color.
Inconsistent Sizing
I ordered a replacement pair of these classic dress pants. They are the exact same item and size that I purchase every time. However, the new pants fit much smaller than my previous pair despite being the same size. Inconsistencies in sizing are becoming more and more frequent as I order from Banana's online shop. It is disappointing and exhausting to order online and still have to go to the mall to return my pants. I've never received an apology from a clerk at the malls either. The worst example of such inconsistencies is when I ordered three different colors of the exact same sized cotton Dawson dress pants. All three of them fit differently. Only one did not have to be returned. I love Banana's clothes when they fit. For the money it costs for mass produced mediocre dress clothes, you would think they could at least be rigorous and thorough when it comes to their sizing.
Varies in size
I have a few classic fit pants from Banana, but lately the new classic fit pants DO NOT fit the same way as the others. I purchased a 33x32 and the ... too tight. The rear was very snug and uncomfortable. Additionally, I felt like there wasn't much room in the thigh area- so the pants were very tight when sitting down. When I went to a 34x32 the pants were way too ... seemed baggy when combined with any of my dress shirts. I haven't noticed this issue with the Classic fit pants until recently, but all my other 33x32 pants still fit- so I have to imagine this is an issue on BR's end.
JUNK JUNK JUNK
I have been buying BR pants in their various iterations for over 10 years. I wear them to work and out in the evenings and have updated them as my styles have changed (10 years ago they were cut really wide and have gradually become more a modern silhouette which I love). I wore through a black pair doing catering for 3 years so those were replaced about 1.5 years ago. I was waiting over last summer to purchase a new charcoal grey pair due to a hole that developed randomly. So the fall/winter line was released and I went to pick up a pair. First off, I wish I didn't have. The material has entirely too much spandex in it, and the wool is below even Gap quality evident by the fact that when ironed or pressed properly, the fabric won't leave a crisp pleat. It is wavy because the material is so cheap. I thought if I had them dry cleaned, that maybe they would be better. NOPE. They actually shrunk! First wool pants in the history of my life that have shrunk when dry cleaned. Wish I had my [$]back. I through them in the trash.
Going Back - Poor fit
Like others reviewing this product, I received my pants, purchased on line and the fit was all wrong. They are not the Classic Fit as labeled. I have purchased other Classic Fit wool pants in the recent past and these pants I just received fit more like a slim or tailored fit. I am not a ... guy (5’11”, 165 lbs) and these were tight in the thigh and across the rear. I am very disappointed in the sizing quality of BR pants in all. I purchased these on line while on sale and with a coupon. I returned them to the store but there was no in stock replacement at the store to swap them with nor did the sales associate offer to order a replacement pair for me at the price I paid. Now if I want them still, I will need to purchase as a full priced item. What is up with that BR? I am not pleased. BR has wasted my time as I had to go to the store to return them. To all, do not purchase these pants on line. The fit appears to be hit or miss.

Pants are great

Classy, comfortable slacks
These dress ... offer a sleek fit and comfortable material which match my day to day work attire. Banana Republic rarely disappoints and they always correct any issue.
Excellent slacks.
I confess I was a little disappointed when I first opened the package. The fabric seemed thin, and I thought I was looking for something a little heavier. However, as I wear them, I like them better and better. They are probably the most comfortable pair of slacks I've ever owned, and they fit and look like they were tailored for me. The fabric is somewhat thin, but the weave is quite tight, and they are as warm as many heavier slacks that I have. I'm impressed with the quality throughout. If I could change one thing, it would be the fly and the fasteners. They have one button and a flap and clip at the waistband. I believe they would be better with the type of design that added a triangular panel lower on the right that crosses over to a button on the left as many other slacks have. But that's a minor deal. They really are getting to be my favorite pair of ... They look especially good with black dress boots.
Great Fit But....
The pants are great. I ended up returning them, however, because I bought the modern fit suit jacket to go with the pants and the modern fit suit jacket was too ... boxy. So I exchanged the jacket for the tailore fit, which fits great. So ensure a perfect match, I exchanged the modern cut ... tailored ... tailored cut fits remarkably similarly to the moden cut.
Wrinkled & Expensive
I like the way BR ... fit me. For several years, I've been buying BR dress ... work and going out. Recently, BR raised the price from $98 to [$] and added a "wrinkle resist" promise. Unfortunately, that lasted one wearing and these ... wrinkle at least as much and probably more than before the $52 per pair price increase. It only costs a couple of bucks to add chemical finishes to a garment. The other $50 moved from my pocket to theirs. A 50% price increase over 5-10 years, ok, one year not so much. Looking elsewhere for a similar fit.
